What drives prices up and what brings them down

Subsidies

A classic air conditioner designed solely for cooling is not eligible for a subsidy. However, if it is an air-to-air heat pump that also provides heating, the same subsidies as for heat pumps apply. In Prague, the Čistá energie Prague 2026-2027 programme offers up to 60 000 Kč for this type of unit, covering a maximum of 50 % of eligible costs. Applications can be submitted retrospectively for installations carried out from 1. 8. 2025 (praha.eu/web/portalzp/w/program-cista-energie-praha-2026-2027, verified on 28. 8. 2026). Outside Prague, the conditions of the New Green Savings programme apply. novazelenausporam.czA more detailed overview of grants for heat pumps is available at guide to air-to-air heat pump pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the price of an air conditioner with installation and what is usually not?

The basic price usually includes the indoor and outdoor units, refrigerant piping up to a certain length (typically around 3-4 metres), a bracket for the outdoor unit, system evacuation and commissioning. Beyond the base package, additional charges apply for longer refrigerant runs (per extra metre), core drilling through thicker walls, a separate electrical circuit breaker, condensate drainage over a greater distance, or scaffolding if the outdoor unit is difficult to access.

Why do prices for practically the same performance vary so much?

According to the public price lists in the table above, a split unit with an output of around 2.5-3.5 kW including installation costs from approximately 19 000 to 60 000 Kč. The difference depends on the brand and series (budget vs. Premium), region (Prague and large cities are usually more expensive than smaller towns), installation complexity, and whether the offer is exclusive of VAT or inclusive of VAT. Seasonality also plays a role, during peak demand at the turn of spring and summer, prices and waiting times tend to be higher than off-season.

Do I need consent from the building's owners' association to install an outdoor unit?

In the case of a residential building with shared areas (facade, balcony), an outdoor unit mounted on the facade usually requires consent from the building's owners' association or the property owner, without it, disputes and subsequent removal are possible. Request this before ordering installation, not after.

Is your air conditioner eligible for a subsidy?

A standard air conditioner designed solely for cooling does not qualify for a subsidy, programmes such as Nová zelená úsporám or Čistá energie Prague target heating sources. However, if it is an air-to-air heat pump that also serves for heating, the same subsidy applies as for a heat pump (in Prague up to 60 000 Kč; details in the heat pump price guide).

What is the price difference between a split and a multisplit system?

A split system serves one room with one outdoor and one indoor unit. A multisplit connects multiple indoor units to a single outdoor unit; according to the public price list in the table above, a solution for two rooms costs roughly twice as much as for one room, and for three rooms roughly three times as much, due to increased hardware and work on the distribution lines.
